Wheat...Early-week trade in the west coast wheat markets showed white
wheat prices remained on a sideways trek, holding at the $5.90 level with
club wheat at a 35 cent premium. Bids for both hard red winter and dark
northern spring have been more reflective of the moves in the underlying
futures markets as basis levels have held steady. The Pacific Northwest
continues to be blanketed under seasonal temperatures, but lacking any
significant moisture or snow cover.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed row crop movement remains
the top priority, with total wheat loadings coming in at 13 million bushels.
Year-to-date shipments stand at 600 million bushels, which is running 18%
above a year ago. Hard red winter shipped 4.9 million bushels, red spring
was at 3.1 million and soft white moved less than a million bushels. West
coast exporters shipped 8.6 million bushels of wheat, going mostly to Japan
and South Korea, along with 15 million bushels of corn and 12.5 million of
soybeans for China.
